Citizenship Support Project

 

The Citizenship Support Project focus on assisting and supporting permanent residents and citizenship applicants in understanding, preparing for, in making reservations for and sitting for the Australian Citizenship test. The Project will assist eligible clients to articulate their understanding of the responsibilities and privileges encompassed in the decision to become an Australian Citizen.

This Project will assist clients to take on an understanding of the Australian way of life so that they can make informed choices in their contribution to Australia. Interested clients will be thoroughly prepared by familiarizing them with computers, the testing process, and exchange of information through to a mock ceremony.

Services provided are as follows:

  • Provision of a citizenship test kit including ”Becoming an Australian Citizen
  • Group teaching in a classroom learning environment including an explanation and discussion of the responsibilities and privileges of Australian citizenship, values, traditions, history and national symbols
  • Group teaching in a classroom learning environment including an explanation and discussion of the responsibilities and privileges of Australian citizenship, values, traditions, history and national symbols
  • Provision of access and assistance to practice the test on the citizenship software
  • Provision of interpreting services for clients
  • One – on – one tuition for clients recognized during sessions
  • Assisting clients to book in for the citizenship test
  • Provision of advice on the process of conferral of citizenship and citizenship ceremonies once the test has been passed
  • Services will be provided in strategic locations in Blacktown and Mt Druitt.

Flexibility of Services:

The Services will be delivered during the day,after hours and on weekends to ensure eligible applicants who are working or have family commitments are not disadvantaged. Applicants will be given the opportunity to choose classes at a time that is convenient for them. A variety of methods have been chosen in order to cater for the variety of needs of eligible clients to overcome barriers faced by them.

Accessibility of Services:

These services will be available at the SydWest Multicultural Services Inc and at TAFE locations in Mt Druitt and Quakers Hill for easy access to computers and also to make it accessible to clients in the Blacktown Statistical Division. The SydWest Multicultural Services Inc has 12 laptop computers that can be used in future in other locations should client demand warrant it.

Facilities and equipment requirements:

A pool of trained bilingual workers facilitates classes in a variety of languages when required. The SydWest Multicultural Services Inc has a dedicated computer room with computers and laptops. A projector, TV and a DVD player are available to use as teaching aids in enhancing the workshops. The Centre also has training rooms to facilitate group teaching and coaching of eligible participants.
