welcome to my world youth resource kit

The Welcome to My World Youth Resource Kit - multimedia CD-Rom is a cultural resource highlighting processes involved in working with youth from small and emerging and refugee communities, specifically targeting young people from Kurdish, Sierra Leone, Sudanese and Tamil communities living and settling within the Blacktown local government area.

The kit was developed through the NESB Youth Exposed Project coordinated by the SydWest Multicultural Services Inc and funded by the Western Sydney Area Assistance Scheme throughout November 2001 – 2003.

What does the kit do?

a. Profiles the needs and issues of refugee youth, specifically profiling young people from Tamil, Kurdish, Sierra Leone and Sudanese communities

b. Highlights the processes involved in assessing the needs

c. Provides examples of strategies and programs developed to meet and raise the awareness of identified needs in an engaging and culturally appropriate manner

The Welcome to My World Youth Resource Kit is a valuable resource for organisations, departments or communities who are in contact with or are planning to/ working with refugee youth.

The kit provides insight into these communities through engaging, innovative and interactive means through the inclusion of the youth Report, Sierra Leone Video Documentary and the Creative Conversations CD. It is suitable for community and school libraries, health and community organisations, youth services, government departments.
