Families NSW a project are funded by the Department Of Community Services and is a NSW Government Initiative. The projects provide support to families with children 0 to 8 years who live in the Blacktown and Baulkham Hills Local Government Area. The main aim is to assist parents to raise healthy and well adjusted children by helping them to solve problems early. The Families NSW workers provide support and outreach from a number of locations in the community. Also Families NSW workers can work with service providers to assist them in accessing the target communities, provide cultural awareness training and home visiting. It is also to identify required resources for enhancement of the projects.
The SydWest Multicultural Services Inc currently runs two Families NSW projects, Early Intervention and Perinatal Project. These projects in collaboration with other services provide culturally appropriate support for families from Afghani, Sudan, Liberia, Pakistan and Indian Subcontinent communities. The client groups assisted in these projects are newly arrived Refugees, Temporary Protection Visa Holders, and Small and Emerging Communities.
