The African Project comprises a Project Coordinator and bilingual community workers. Workers provide casework and outreach services from a number of strategic locations in the Blacktown local government area. For current details contact the Project Coordinator. Project workers can also work with service providers to assist them in accessing communities and provide cultural consultancy.

The African Project provides community development and integration services for refugees and migrants from African communities in Blacktown. Services include community education and training programs, assistance to community leaders and members to engage with mainstream service providers, mentoring programs and assistance in development of commercial enterprises. This project also provides cultural transition activities to African humanitarian entrants in the Blacktown local government area.

The assistance is provided through the following services:

  • Casework and referrals in areas of housing, tenancy, employment, Medicare, Centrelink, immigration and all settlement issues
  • Establishing community support groups and associations to enhance community structures and networks
  • Employment pathways workshops
  • Skills development and training programs
  • Disseminating information and holding information sessions
  • Mentoring program
  • Organising and delivering after hours homework support for school aged clients
  • Promoting and representing clients needs through advocacy
