- To identify and address the needs of people in the Western Sydney area particularly to refugees, migrants and those from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, in order to ensure the relief from suffering, poverty, distress, misfortune and disability of individuals settling into and living in the area.
- To provide support services to disadvantaged and marginalized people especially to refugees, migrants and those from a culturally and linguistically diverse background with particular emphasis on supporting recent arrivals, families and older people, to obtain the assistance and resources they require to enable the effective use of their skills and capacities and thereby maximise their access to the social and economic opportunities available in the Australian community.
- To identify and provide community care and other services for special needs groups such as older people, people with disabilities and their carers.
- To promote and monitor social justice and equity principles among government and non-government groups.
- To provide a pivotal role in the community consultation and planning process within the western Sydney region in relation to communities from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
- To provide a base for a range of settlement services including resources, facilities and program support especially to refugees and those from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
- To build community capacity, including through provision of support and facilities to local ethnic groups to enable them to build community support and satisfy cultural, educational and social needs.
- To establish close links with key agencies and relevant peak groups to increase awareness of the special needs of refugees, migrants and people in culturally and linguistically diverse communities in order to contribute to community harmony.
- To monitor and evaluate the programs and services provided by SydWest Multicultural Services Incorporated to ensure they are relevant to the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized people especially to refugees and those from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
- To undertake to provide service regardless of race, creed, colour, gender, disability or country of origin, as far as resources permit.
SydWest Multicultural Services Inc was established in 1985 to assist with the settlement needs of migrants and refugees in the Blacktown Local Government Area. Since then our support services have developed and expanded to meet the wide variety of needs and challenges experienced by people in the western Sydney area. Our services now include a rapidly growing aged care and disabilities section as well as support of families with babies and young children. |
